Firefox tweaked to the point it’d really make more sense to start with waterfox/librewolf if I didn’t already have the momentum. Vivaldi is slicker, but I think it’s important to support an engine besides chromium

I think it’s a perspective you can apply or not, and one I still find useful. Our goals and intentions aside they’re contagious little bits of information that want to spread, and what makes them good at doing so is interesting to think about. As a conceptual unit of discourse, I have a hard time seeing them as a potential substitute for it. Quotation as substitute for thought is another story, but a far older story than this (or perhaps any) medium

I think you’d get a lot of good from reading a bit about memetics and conceiving of “memes” as transmissible ideas vs captioned pics online

More broadly, the purpose of our education system is not to educate or enlighten but to shape useful, compliant citizens. Common core was another sharp turn for the worse, go read about how controversial mandating attendance was back in the day. Picking on nerds as an act of resistance is weird to think about from here :p

You would be correct per capita but not geographically! Volunteer/neighborhood fire departments are pretty common outside of major cities, and sometimes supplement professional services within them. They give people a direct way to serve their community and often serve double duty as event centers for birthdays, wedding receptions, potlatch, etc. Huge fan, consider volunteering :)
