I already made that mistake once. Incredibly shitty night. Half of one would have had me zoning the fuck out and I ate two …

Pro tip: First time you do edibles, take someone who had edibles before or at least made a joint before. Don’t just be among other other noobs like me.

And preferably whenever you do drugs for the first time, get a sitter. Everyone being drunk/high/tripping/whatever makes for a poor situation if something does go wrong.

alternatively, maybe don’t be with people with much higher tolerance than yourself. my first time with edibles my friends who were huge potheads and about half my size were taking like 80mg, so I said, “oh, I should be able to do like 50 then, right?” and they did not tell me no

I was that friend when I came back from college once. A group of friends and I bought 2x brownies each. These suckers were so strong I could smell them from a different room.

Told everyone to just eat 1/4 of one (they were 3"x3") and wait 30 minutes. They all said, “Lol, no. We’ll be fine,” and ate both at once.

They were not fine. It wasn’t their first edible, but this was around the time that really potent weed was hitting the market in our Podunk town and their only experience was ditch weed edibles.

I consume THC primarily through edibles so I am often the guy people come to for their first time getting high. I give new users 5mg and I tell them to wait for an hour. For first timers it can take a little longer for them to notice. Sometimes I will make sure they get up and do some jumping jacks or something to get that blood moving.

If after one hour a new user is not reporting feeling any different from 5mg I will give them 5mg more and tell them not to take another gummy for at least 5 hours. I would say 95% of the time that second 5mg they do start to feel it properly.

I should note that everyone is different and some people will not ever feel 5mg and some people (like my father) take 2.5mg because that’s all he needs. After doing this for years with a lot of people I feel confident in saying that 5mg and an hour wait should work on 75% of people.

My little sister who weighs next to nothing compared to me barely notices 10mg so your milage may vary. It’s a bit like alcohol. Some people get drunk off one glass of wine. Some people need a whole bottle to feel anything. Always take it slow your first time and it’s ok if you don’t feel anything the first time. There is almost nothing worse than going way too far on your first time with THC. My brother did that for me and I was coughing and throwing up for like 20 minutes before I basically passed out in the backyard.

You need to wait ~45 minutes, then loudly complain “these edibles ain’t shit!”

That’s the activation phrase. The THC in your digestive tract needs to hear that to start working.

The first several times I tried edibles they did nothing. I didn’t know that can just happen to people. So each time, I waited a few days and tried again. But, figuring the last one did literally nothing, I doubled the dose the next time.

I paused at 40mg, wondering if that was really a good idea. It wasn’t. When it hit, time literally stopped. A minute felt like an hour. But I had only myself to blame and I was super high, so I thought it was funny as fuck. I got ready for bed, giggling to myself constantly, then passed the fuck out.

It’s still funny to me, and it always reminds me that mindset is huge. That was the first time I ever tried weed and I could have freaked out, but I just accepted my mistake and laughed at how stupid I was. It makes it a good memory.

The problem with edibles, even store bought ones, is that the actual THC concentration can vary wildly from what’s on the package. And if it’s a pack of gummies or something, it’s not uncommon for each gummy to have a different concentration.

I remember hanging with a buddy, and our third friend shows up with, lol and behold, three blunts. These were those blunt wraps that we got back in the day, so three gram blunts with all sorts of nasty grape flavored chemicals. I’m trying to remember what they were called.

Anyway, me and first buddy are both like, oh boy, that’s hefty for just three dudes, and the third buddy said something that we would go on to quote for many years: What’s going to happen to you? And so we smoked those blunts, and yeah, we were incredibly baked, but he was right, nothing happened.

That logic does not apply today. You will fall off the earth.

        I no longer smoke weed.

Blend it with some high CBD flower! Something that I learned when I started growing was that most of the strains now are so intense be cause we’ve bred basically all of the CBD out of these new strains. Mixing with some CBD flower will help make it more mild, and possibly reduce side effects like anxiety.

It felt like what smoking felt like when I was a teenager. It was pretty awesome. I’ll bet a 90/10 mix of that and some actual weed would be awesome!

I actually can’t get high from edibles. It really sucks, I’ve always wanted to experience it since people say it’s different. I’ve tested myself by eating 3g of RSO. Probably once a year I’ll eat 1g to see if anything a changed and it never does.

      Edibles are bizarre.

I switched to edibles-only right around Covid because… well, I was scared of Covid and compromising my lungs seemed like a luxury I couldn’t afford anymore (well, I probably couldn’t in the first place but that isn’t the point). RSO strictly does not work for me, as you’ve said — I have eaten copious amounts of RSO sober and it just doesn’t do shit.

Many of the dispensary edibles I tried simply didn’t work. I’m not sure if it has something to do with legislation not being strict on quality control, or if I got scammed, or if there’s something magical and abnormal about my stomach acid – I do not know.

Point is, I had to try many edibles before I actually found a brand of them that got me to where I wanted to be. You might be facing something similar, you could always try creating pot brownies yourself from scratch — unless you have.

When consuming edible THC there is a time between when you have consumed the drug and when the drug kicks in. During this time you would wait and not consume more drugs because you will over consume and have a less pleasant experience.

To expand on this, when smoking thc, it will hit immediately, peak within minutes, and last generally about an hour or two. When consuming thc, it will start to kick in between 15-45mins later, peaking in intensity at 1.5-2.5 hours, staying there for about 2 hours, and will still be effective for up to 6 hours after consumption. If you take more within the ramp up period (between 1-3 hours) and end up taking too much, you could be very high for the next 3-4 hours.

That is highly dependent on the strength of the edible. I’ve had a brownie where half of one was nearly too much and I had been high for 6 years at that point. My other friends didn’t listen to me and ate two of them and had a horrible time (they weren’t lightweights either).

Always eat half and wait 30 minutes.

Homemades? Ill agree those vary in strength. I was buying premade weed coconut oil back in the day and making cookies, I always warned people to start with a half. Very rarely was I listened too, they ALWAYS agreed with me after.

To be clear these were stoners who just got too stoned. I was moving slow like I was on Xanax! I feel asleep! Where the main complaints.

Yes people, their are great reasons to be careful with homemade or storebrought edibles, and yea if it aint working it probably just hasnt started yet. But also, going to sleep early is usually the main problem with too much weed. Maybe cancelling plans cause couch and blanket is better than anything else.

When I made my first homemade butter I thought I’d start low, melted some of it over my pasta, watched some movie for a while and got so incredibly stoned, I can not remember much of what happened next. My dog decided to take me for a walk, we visited friends having a BBQ (he got a sausage) and I had hallucinations of… sheep? Like I was hearing sheep everywhere apparently and I was barely able to communicate between the giggling.

Through deduction and clever thinking I managed to come to the conclusion that I indeed did not start low, but blasted my head off with some very potent girl scout cookies butter.

Well it really didn’t work for me. My psychiatrist told me it’s not impossible since my medication do make me resistant to some types of drugs.

I was in amsterdam and since all my friends were smoking (i don’t know how to smoke anything and am super alergic) I decided to joi the fun and had an edible. They gave me only half, but a couple of hours later nothing had happened so I ate the other half. Well… still nothing happened. So I just went to sleep.

Btw I ate a couple of magic mushrooms (ate them raw, so idk) and also, nothing… So this was tested with a couple different of drugs.

To this day I never had the “on drugs” experience (besides my medication that is awesome lol)

SSRIs and the like will mess with shrooms. It varies by person, like all this stuff, but you generally need like twice as much. On meds, I got a nice high out of 4.5g. Off meds, I get hit harder than that from 2g. Shroom potency also varies a lot, so it’s not that odd to just have a dud.

Edibles took me several tries to feel anything, but did eventually just start working. They don’t for some people, so that is possible, but it could just take a few tries. I think it was 4-5 for me.
