I actually have a small but bright orange hatchet (I spray it to help keep rust off it and also to make it super easy to spot from the other side of my campsite) I keep on my bag, mostly for Camping, but I use the same bag when I’m on my bike.

I’ve started keeping it on, and have seemingly had less people giving me shit when I’m biking through town.

It’s a large boulder (the size of a small boulder) about 4ft wide, never seen more than waist height, a little closer to one of the “walls” of the quarry.

I’ll have to find an episode with it. It’s mostly visible after season 1 and before season 8 or 9. Idk what happened to uncover/bury/move it, but it does move like twice during the show, even though I’m positive it’s an actual rock and not a prop.

I want to say the first time I noticed it was during the episodes where they’re trying to rescue Bra’tac and Ry’ac from the mine? After tretonin was developed. (Ry’ac says “it is hard to ration that which you do not have” when Bra’tac pretends to be taking his tretonin)

When I see it again, I will definitely post to Chevron 7.

Don’t quote me on this, because I can’t remember the specific episode, comic, or book, but I vaguely remember the ancients settled places thy were most like their original homeworld of Alterra, and gave them the best comfort overall. That just happened to be what the Pacific Northwest region of North America looks like, so most of the planets are still pretty close to that. Some obviously have continued morphing over the millennia, but it makes a nice explanation for why everywhere looks like the same 30 mile area around their BC studio lol.

At the time they didn’t really know much about the ancients, definitely didn’t know that Atlantis took off from Antarctica 5 million years ago…

That’s fair, however it always felt a little weird for the scientist of all people to make such a broad generalization.

Always one of my favorite parts of that episode.

You can see a decent bit depending on terrain in most places, more if the terrain is higher than surrounding areas, but she pops out of a crack, looks around and sees ice for a few hundred yards, and gives up.

In fairness, without direction, some form of marker, or obvious landmark, wandering around in a blizzard would have been death for both of them… Not that they would have been able to walk to civilization even if they DIDN’T have injuries…

Still though, they’ve experienced varied terrain in plenty of planets, so assuming the whole planet is ice is something Sam would have corrected someone else on in a heartbeat. (and also made the argument that for all intents and purposes, for them it may as well be a whole planet)

I wonder how much better we could have had it if the location budget were like 4x what they had. Eventually you start to recognize specific rocks in the quarry… My wife likes to call one rock Terry because it has two vaguely eye-shaped holes, and “because it’s terrible how often they use that place”

My father in law used to wear contacts.

He would often forget them and wear them to bed, sometimes for days, and then when he went to do things in the morning, sometimes one would be missing.

This went on for several years and one day he brings up some “minor discomfort” in his left eye.

After some deduction, a lot of eye rolling and tons of pain, they managed to get most of the pieces to about 10-12 contacts behind the left eye, and 4-5 in the right eye.

They sometime ripped and seprted into different spots around his eye and he apparently was in a massive mount of pain before actually speaking up about it.

I had an eyelash grow toward my eyeball once and I thought I was dying…

When you have literally nothing else, you use what you have on hand. If there’s a woman around, chances are they might have an emergency pad tucked away somewhere.

Heck back when I was trying to be someone else, I carried a couple pads and tampons in my messenger bag in case a friend needed one. (still do, they’re just in a purse)

I recently left a job where my coworker was the absolute dumbest motherfucker I have ever met, but at least he was willing to listen to people with differing opinions. I think I managed to pull him a little left, at the very least he started out going “the people in charge generally know what is best for us even if they sometimes dip into things themselves” and ended with “fuck ice, they’re fascists acting exactly like the nazis did and the shitbags in charge are enabling them at every turn, the whole system needs reset” which is a pretty big leap, IMO.

One thing I couldn’t budge him on was the moon landing. It doesn’t matter that I have assisted in a laser range-finding experiment using the retro reflectors left on the moon, thus confirming to myself that we HAVE been there.

It didn’t matter how much I explained the Apollo missions, how much I explained why things behave in space the way they do, how much I explained why NASA essentially hd to rebuild a moon mission from the ground up, or any number of things. He still firmly believed it was all bullshit and we never went there.

I would always end the conversation about space stuff with “the biggest reason to me is that the USSR never came out and said ‘this is fake, here’s proof they faked the landing’ and basically gave up not long afterward, and they clearly had spies and intelligence capable of infiltrating NASA systems and obtaining classified information, just look at the Russian space shuttle. If they knew we faked it, they would have every reason in the world to embarss us by revealing our lies to the world” and he would always agree on that point. Still fake to him though
