People weren’t complaining, they were proactively censoring to get corporations and networks online.

But they wanted to market stuff to kids, only way to do that is to show it during the day. You can’t sell trading cards to children if their parents see someone’s legs getting chopped off (look at yugioh, one of the battles had actual buzz saws that would cut off the losers feet).
