Republicans in particular don’t give a shit about something until it affects them or their family/friends/ingroup.

So far the horrors of the last year haven’t actually directly affected that many Americans. Or it’s abstract enough that it’s easy for people (mostly morons, which we have a crazy number of) not to connect the dots.

When people start getting drafted in significant numbers, that’d actually have impact.
