  • I remember finding out WAY too late into Maplestory that you have to basically know how to distribute stats from the get-go, because there was no going back. when you hit level milestones the game expects you to have a near-perfect stat distribution to buy level-appropriate gear, and when the game is as grindy as oldschool Maplestory every level you had to spend past that milestone adjusting for the imperfect stats was a SLOG. I think the first 5 levels after every milestone my first character spent with the previous milestone’s equipment because i was just too stubborn to make a new character and start over

  • When I was something like 8-12 years old I was watching Toonami and Cartoon Network. At that time shows like Tenchi Muyo and YuYu Hakusho, despite being very different, took up the same headspace to little kid me. When I needed to come up with a username for the first time ever it was on a now-extinct Game Shark forum and it was as uninspiring as a kid would likely make, something like user123 or whatever.

The second username I ever made, and I don’t remember what website it was originally for, I wanted to use the name of a character from one of the shows I was watching. I transcribed the name like how I thought it would be spelled. The character’s actual name would now be spelled kione from Tenchi Muyo. The character I thought I had come up with the name for, though, was someone with red hair, but whom I thought was a demon in the show. I’m not certain anymore, since this is over 15 years ago, but the character I was trying to name was either Kurama from YuYu Hakusho who is a demon, or Washu Hakubi from Tenchi Muyo who isn’t a demon because that’s not a thing in Tenchi Muyo, but I think I just conflated the characters into one. Doesn’t matter, since I got the name wrong either way.

t;dr dumb little kid me conflated red-haired anime mad scientist with red-haired anime demon, and the name from a third anime character. I spelled “kione” as “kionay” phonetically. poorly. been using it ever since.
