Yeah, that’s another reason to criticize this graph. And in fairness to the authors and from what I understood, they don’t just look at native speakers. The theory is that due to population decline everywhere but Africa and the dominance of French on the continent French’s rise to lingua franca will be a pull factor. People who want to do business with these African francophone areas are more likely to learn it.

Knowing how serious especially the French take French, this theory reads a bit try-hard-y. We were the language of the world, the language of royalty and diplomacy. And then the blasted roastbeefs passed us on the right. But now we play the long game to get back to the top. I’m not saying this can’t be true. It’s just there is this graph in the summary that almost seems comical with the optimistic projection:
As I said, I didn’t read it all so take my criticism with un peu du sel. I remain unconvinced that English will be displaced here. English has insane orthography but relatively simple grammar. French is two for two on the insanity scale (as somebody who had to learn both as foreign languages in school I feel comfortable in making this judgment). English got spread around the world with the roastbeef empire; French didn’t quite reach those heights. They had to have a revolution or two and in between Napoleon screwed it up by selling Louisiana.

What you are describing sounds an awful lot like collapse to me. Your slavery South comparison is missing that a lot of what they produced was exported to places where at least officially slavery was banned. So that model is propped up in one location by areas with purchasing power from the general public elsewhere. The thought experiment was what if everywhere was the slavery South, in which case the economy will no longer be sustainable.
Apps that run entirely on ads will probably not make enough money so premium or freemium is where they go. If they have no ads in their app, they probably also have no money to buy ads on YouTube.
It’s not in the billionaire’s interest for us plebs to have no money at all. A lot of their interests are funded by us. Paying for power, food, iPhones, clothes, cars, holidays etc. So if they have it all and we have none, the economy will collapse, people will barter with vape juice and booze, and the billionaires will realize they cannot eat money.
When the economy collapses the question of who will pay taxes is a secondary problem. The primary one will be to rebuild the state and a new currency and then they’ll look at the tax code.

You might want to look into what’s called promession. It’s a way to turn you into fertilizer.
Your question is hard to answer. Because when it comes to how corpses are dealt with, the rules aren’t federal in the US. So you need to look at the states. And the rules for burials, release of the ashes, etc. are possibly set at county level. Likewise in Europe, the rules differ by countries and even within those by whatever subdivisioning applies. I looked it up for Germany, which has some federal rules about how to handle a corpse. But then 16 state laws on what is allowed in terms of final resting places. So far as I can see a Viking burial will not be allowed in places where cremation must happen at a specific temperature, the ashes may not be spread outside cemeteries, or other environmental laws forbid it. So that’s basically nowhere then. Being shot out of a cannon will probably fail at an environmental hurdle or the fact that civilians can’t own active military equipment.

Those thoughts are not crazy. I feel like that every time I take a picture off a bridge or tall building and I’m leaning over the edge to get a better angle. I found peace of mind in a lanyard strap.

Specifying American English is unnecessarily specific. The other Englishes do it too.
Why do you ask this? Is it that inconceivable that people could just say “comma” in their languages like you say “point” in English? Or were you hoping it’s a weird word? Like seven thlumpf five?
He wasn’t supposed to be alone in the cell. They were supposed to check on him. The surveillance cameras were supposed to work. It’s possible this is 3 human fuckups in a row with sad consequences. By which I mean his victims could never see him in court getting convicted. It’s also possible that he was killed in custody. We like conspiracy theories. We may never know. Because you would need to be able to prove this. And unless they filmed themselves hanging him, which I doubt they did, then this will take its rightful place among the great myths of our time.
It’s also possible he offed himself. He may have suddenly discovered a conscience and developed scruples (low chance). He may have not felt like discussing his pedophilia in open court again and chose the coward’s way out (higher chance). Somebody may have pressured him. He knew shit about many of the rich and powerful; the reverse may also be true (highest chance of these three).
I wouldn’t call this so much a statistical error but a human one. While the exact number may be unknown, somebody with a pencil sat down somewhere and counted some beans on a sample, which a math whiz can extrapolate to get to a total population number that’s closer to the truth.
