PBS Passport is PBS’s streaming service. You can a whole bunch of content for as low as $5 a month.
As a life long media pirate, i still pay for PBS passport because its just so much content for such a reasonable price and the money supports a good cause instead of making some rich asshole richer.
Not paying for PBS content is like stealing from your local library.
I only wish their streaming app wasn’t dogshit bad. We need a standard streaming delivery app, allowing you to log in and get your content. And development costs are shared so smaller outlets don’t struggle to deliver a decent experience.
You would think at least each platform like Roku would have enough in their SDKs to handle the tricky bits so building each app is just an exercise in styling.
But there’s so many quirks. HBO Max struggles to understand when I’ve watched a show. If I go back to look for a new episode and there isn’t one it will start to play the last episode and then reset my watched progress to the beginning of the episode.
I have my opinions on it too. What do you think makes it so bad?
It freezes, crashes, FF and RW sucks, it’s hard to get to your favorite shows (true of commercial apps too), …
There’s not a lot to like and nothing to love other than the content itself.

The classics. This Old House, The Joy of Painting, NOVA, Ken Burns Docs, Antiques Roadshow, Austin City Limits, Masterpiece Theater.
Newer stuff. POV, PBS News Hour, a shit ton of cooking shows (real cooking not competition shows), fitness videos like yoga,

I’m from Michigan and there’s awesome shows like “Michigan Out of Doors” for outdoor sporting and “Michigan Under the Radar” which is a travel show. You have access to other area’s local shows too.
Masterpiece stuff is great, I really like “all creatures great and small”. Nova and Nature are usually pretty dope. I throw on antiques roadshow for background noise but we also use it as a game like the price is right.
I like to collect creepy dolls from antiques roadshow as stickers.

Ireland’s Wild Coast is good if you like nature docs. I’ll put it on to nap sometimes too because it’s just so damn relaxing and cozy

A lot of PBS content is free on Youtube, but not all of it.
But don’t you want to support that content? You know what PBS’s biggest source of income is?
It’s viewers…like you.
